The mountains are calling….And so the journey begins

Hello all!

My adventure has begun…I have anticipated this trip for the last couple weeks, but still it seems to have come suddenly! It was QUITE the last minute idea to go to Kenya however, so I guess I have a excuse. These past couple weeks of graduating from school, being in Canada, and spending more time with everyone, has been wonderful… making some goodbyes more difficult (family, friends and coworkers). I cannot help but be grateful to have such an amazing support system. So after some tearful goodbyes, and my own emotional moments, I have ventured off on this journey! Am I nervous?…not really, little apprehensive of moving to Kenya, sure, but at this point it is mainly excitement for where this new endeavour will take me! Im sure for those the know me understand that I am quite the “go with the flow” calm person, but man has it gotten real! All those weeks of running around trying to organize my visa, vaccinations, insurance, forms, online courses…..over.  I am going to Africa!

Arriving at Toronto Pearson International Airport at 5am this morning, my parents said their goodbyes, told me they loved me, told me to be safe, and then told me they loved me again. Mom and Dad- I love you too! 😉
I met Caitlin Brydges (my fellow traveler), checked our bags, flew through security and were all set to fly. After a relatively short flight and layover in Calgary, we took a tin can plane (literally one seat on either side of the aisle) to Cranbrook, where we are now staying in student dorms for the week. We will be spending the week (until Friday) at College of the Rockies, the university where the International Youth Internship Program is being based out of, enjoying the beautiful mountain views(unbelievable!), and some last minute luxuries of home. Here we will be doing pre-departure training, preparation and getting to know the other interns before off on our 6 months abroad.

Today we took our time walking the scenic route to get groceries, getting to know each other and finishing up last minute assignments for this internship. We are beautifully nestled in the middle of mountains and a protected forest, Cranbrook is lovely so far! But now as I write it is 9pm here (11 at home) and I have been up since 330am..LONG DAY, but the weirdest part, it is still so light out, it may as well be 3 in the afternoon. Regardless, enjoy the pictures from the first day full of travel!

Happy Monday to you all!

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. – Romans 1:16-20
